After the implementation of the Habiganj Tea Valley project in the management of Petrobangla, the Sylhet city gas supply project was taken to meet the demand of gas in the greater Sylhet region. After integrating the two projects into 1977, the gas supply was officially started in Sylhet city on January 5, 1978, by the flame of gas at the shrine of Hazrat Shahjalal (RA).
With the implementation of Sylhet Tea Garden Gas Supply Project-1, Sunamganj City Gas Supply Project, Kailastila-Chhatak Pipeline Project and Chhatak City Gas Supply Project, the gas transmission and distribution pipeline was expanded in Sylhet area and was covered under company law from December 1, 1986. Estimates of a Complete Petrobangla Company with Authorized Capital Jalalabad Gas Transmission and Distribution System Limited (JGTDSL) started functioning.
